Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

What should you de-junk?

Perhaps your husband’s rock collection?

We took my husband’s rock collection and some dumpster dive finds and made fairyland!

For 15 years my husband has had a rock collection we’ve been transporting from house to house, which I questioned keeping.  I realized I wasn’t ready to give away my childhood doll collection, so why should I make him give up 20 rocks?

I put his rocks in our garden in a forgotten corner for a few years and didn’t think much about it.

On my latest dumpster dive adventure I pulled out a dried floral arrangement and birdhouse that my neighbor was throwing away.  My son and I had so much fun designing fairyland with the rock collection as a fairy ring and pathway.  I grabbed a few resin fairies out of my fairy collection and some mice and bippity-boppity boo, the birdhouse became a mouse house, the floral arrangement became the trees, and now the fairies love dancing under the light of a full moon in the fairy ring.

I love the phrase oftimes attributed to the pioneers, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”  We finally found a use for my husband’s rock collection which now delights and beautifies our garden!

The moral of the story:

Sometimes you don’t have to de-junk because you can re-purpose an item and create something of function and beauty!  Have fun re-purposing!
